Cultural Heritage

This page titled Cultural Heritage will collate articles, audio and video contributions on the Cultural Heritage of Tirunelvely.  These pages would include stories as well.  Stories and fiction can at times offer unique insight into cultural landscape of a people.  Reading these stories would sometimes transport you  to directly in the midst of these people in the villages of Thirunelvely.  We have included two stories by Dr. Uthayakumar and one by A Rangarajan.  All three have been written in English. The initial pages of this site are in English and soon Tamil pages would be there.
We plan to bring out short sketches on illustrious writers the South Tamil Nadu region has had the privilege of having them as its sons of the soil.  We start with great folklore writer Ki Ra as he is fondly called or is otherwise known more formally as Ki Rajanarayan.  An interview with him is published and a documentary on him is presented.  We thank Puduvai  Ilavenil for this documentary. This will include not only writers but artistes and other eminent people.  Karukrichi Arunasalam, the great Nadhaswra  Maestro, TKC the great writer, conservationist who enjoyed all good things whose deep analysis of Kamba Ramayanam is legendary.  Pitchukutti the Villupattu artist par excellence and many more would be added one by one.  If viewers of the website can contribute it would make this page truly participatory.  Do kindly bear in mind this is only a beginning and if backed by enthusiasm we will help it grow and keep it alive and responsive.  We have included a series of black and white photographs by Esakki Aiyya – these are not only telling images but have a resonant quality about them. They would convey to you what words cannot.  All of these make singular images would make Tirunelvely of the years gone by come alive!  Unfortunately Esakki  Aiyya passed away this year much to the grief of his friends and admirers and this website offer a special dedication to the man and his work.  I hope these pages would not only enrich you but make you reflective as well.
